1992 - 2000

ASSOCIATION FOR THE MUSEUM OF TRANSPORTS AND COMMUNICATIONS – 1ST EVENT

1992 –The Association for the Museum of Transports and Communications on the 21st of February. The institution promotes permanent exhibitions related with this theme and opens its doors to other activities, such as many types of events through the creation of a Congress Centre, in the same building. The renovation of the building by the Architect Souto Moura started on this date.

1993 – After signing a protocol with the State, on the 26th of March, the Association began to manage the fate and conversion of the building.

1998 – The amplitude of the building, with its wide rooms full of light provides unique versatility and multi-functionalism for the realization of many events. The recovery enabled the rooms with security, acoustics and communication equipment. All of these characteristics, its location and architectural singularities made the building the chosen location for the VIII Ibero-American Summit (October 1998), that brought to Portugal the Presidents and Prime Ministers of the Latin American countries. This was the beginning of an era of realization of events in the magnificent venue.

1999 – The contract of the Porto Customs House was signed by the Minister of Finance on the 18th of October, as the headquarters of the Museum for Transports and Communications.
