RENAISSANCE OF THE BUILDING

1987 – After more than 100 years of customs service, the Customs House sees it´s services moved. With the evolution of the means of communication, many services located in the city centre were moved to the outskirts of the city as a way of easier access and proximity to the airport and shipping port (Leixões). The same happened to the customs service that gradually moved to the TIR terminal, Porto de Leixões and airport.

However, the sequence of movements of cultural means of the city led to a solution of the Counsil of Ministers on the 27th March 1987, that decided that the building should become a Museum of Transports. Therefore, an installing commission was installed.
